Avoid Burnout

First and foremost, you cannot keep up with the demands of your career if you are totally burned out. That means that as important as your work is, it is essential that you make time for yourself. One way to do this is to structure your time into working time and home time and doing your best to keep your time at work from creeping into your personal time. Sometimes an important case can be difficult to stop thinking about when you leave work, but doing your best to leave work at the office can help you to decompress and come back to work feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day.


Follow Industry Changes

One of the best things you can do to stay on top of your demands is to be aware of changes in the industry. Keeping your eye on the industry and staying involved by reading journals or attending conferences can help you to avoid major surprises that could throw you off course. Legal podcasts can help you stay aware of changing laws and new legal precedents. The more informed you are of the things that are going on in your industry, the better you will be able to do your job.


Set Clear Boundaries

The purpose of education is to prepare us for real-world work experience. However, once one has entered a profession or work force, there are still opportunities for growth that can be achieved through further education. How do we handle pursuing both schooling and work, simultaneously? Having a workable plan, using flexible resources, and combining your career with your education can help you achieve those work and school goals without overwhelming your life.

Create a Workable Plan

Overscheduling yourself is counterproductive! Without a wise balance of time commitment and energy to work, school, and other aspects of your life, you will not perform as you want to within any of those spheres. Establish a vision or end goal for your career or your life, and then begin determining the steps necessary to reach that vision. The most important element of “planning” is to be realistic with your time and capabilities as you work towards your goals, so that you won’t find yourself discouraged or overwhelmed. Finally, be flexible! Your plan will almost certainly have to be altered, reevaluated, and changed according to outside factors. Be patient with yourself and your resources; you will get where you want to be, as long as you are diligent in adhering to your plans.

Take Online Classes

Advances in technology have created an excellent, accessible and affordable means of education for people in any circumstance. With an online course, you don’t have to follow strict class times, giving you more flexibility. Because time management is such a key part of balancing work and school, this is a great resource to take advantage of in order to free you of the constraints of scheduled classes. There is something for everyone; types of classes available are limitless, if you are willing to do the digging to find them!

Combine Your Education With Your Career

Maybe you are already in a career you enjoy, doing something you are passionate about. Further education may open doors within that field, expanding opportunities and introducing you to facets of your work you may end up loving. One way many people combine their school and work efforts is through certification programs, which allow you to gain a specified knowledge or emphasis on a certain topic. What’s more, sometimes companies will even pay for you to take a course (or courses) that certify and qualify you for work they find beneficial to them!

Your education and your career don’t have to be mutually exclusive. There are ways you can manage both, each benefitting the other through study and experience. Find ways that work best for you to work towards the educational and professional goals you have for your life!

Getting involved in higher education is a noble pursuit. If you have a full-time job and family to take care of, however, you may feel like you are crumbling under the pressure. Finding balance in your life between work, family, and school will relieve you of this burden so you can offer your best work no matter where you are.

Make a Plan

You should start by planning out your average week. Block off time for classes and work first, then attribute the rest of your time to one of these three goals. You should add in time for sleeping, eating, and personal time to relax (you wouldn’t want to burn yourself out).

Once you have created your plan, you should stick to it each day. This will help you work effectively and keep your mind engaged in the work you are doing at the time. Choose a specific day of the week to update your plans as necessary.

Take Online Classes

Going on campus for school can be inconvenient if you have a busy work schedule. Your college may be out of the way and you may not have time to travel between your work and the campus building. Thankfully, many schools offer digital options for convenience.

Online courses give you more flexibility and the ability to learn at your own pace. You can also “attend” class from any building or location so long as you have a working internet connection. This is effective if you travel a lot for work, or if it isn’t practical for you to be in a classroom.

Ask for Advice

Don’t be afraid to ask for advice! Going to college can feel overwhelming on its own—let alone having a full-time job. You should consult with other people who have been in your position before to see how they coped and what helped them. They likely will be glad to help you navigate this stressful period in your life.

Communicate with your teachers and boss as well. Let them know your current situation and see what they can do to accommodate your position. Many professors have helpful resources and office hours you can reach out to get further guidance.

In doing these things, you are placing your priorities in the right place. You will more effectively use your time and may receive additional guidance from your peers and mentors. Don’t be afraid to try online classes if campus life is too hard to work into your schedule, and things should turn out perfect.

5 Beliefs That Keep You from Attacking Your Goals
Everyone has dreams, but not everyone makes their dreams into goals. You may have a few of these too. What are the reasons you tell yourself late at night to put the shutdown on making them a reality? These reasons are beliefs that you have, but that doesn’t mean they are valid reasons for not experiencing goal achievement.
1. Not Enough Time
Everyone is busy these days. When someone asks how you are doing, you probably respond with “Busy.” But that might not be the truth. Everyone has the same twenty-four hours in the day. For a week or maybe two, keep a time ladder of how you spent your time. This includes sleeping, preparing and eating meals, social media, getting ready for work, cleaning your house. Take a good look at how your time is spent, and you might realize you have more time than you realize.
2. I Don’t Have ‘X’ Talent
It doesn’t matter if you want to write a book or paint a picture, you have as much talent as you are willing to work for. You may not have been born with the natural ability to paint, it doesn’t mean you can’t learn and practice.
3. After ‘X’ I Will Do It
“Once I get through this (insert tough project at work), I will start training for that marathon.” “After I lose twenty pounds, I will take a salsa dancing class.” Why are you waiting? Maybe that marathon training will help you work through the stress of that project at work. Perhaps salsa dancing lessons will allow you realize that no matter your weight, your body is worthy of fun and sexy movement. If you have a goal, go for it now.
4. I’m Not Good Enough
What ruler are you using to measure your “good enough”? You are always good enough to go after your own dreams and goals. If this is an internal dialogue, then you need to work on liking and loving yourself first. If this belief is coming from external sources, then consider those sources and if they are holding you back.
5. ‘X’ Person Has it Easier
The grass is greener where you water it. Walk a mile in someone else’s shoes. There are many sayings that sum up that you really don’t know what someone else is going through. So do not assume that someone has it easier, and therefore can achieve their goals while you cannot. That person may think you have it easier or better.
Self-limiting beliefs can be a slippery slope especially when it comes to goal achievement. They can also keep you from even trying to reach your goals. Take time to examine your reasoning and come up with better beliefs to counter the negative ones.

To achieve better balance work to create an actual schedule with times when you are at work and times when you are not. Then, stick to the schedule and try to leave work at work.  Zig Ziglar always said “No wonder people are tired, when they are at work they are thinking about home, when they are home they are thinking about work, they are never where they are and always someplace else”  If you’re working from home this can be especially difficult so work to build a specific office space in your home and only do work things from there. That way, when you leave your office space you know you are no longer at work and can leave your work thoughts for tomorrow.

Offload Your Businesses

When you are running your own business, you can feel like everything is your responsibility. Finding ways to delegate responsibilities or offload some of your business can help you to find a better balance and be less likely to burn out. Sometimes, even selling your business may be the right thing to do, so be sure to leave that option on the table. You should make sure to get a fair price for your business by getting an estimate of its value.

Make Time for Yourself

Though you probably get a lot of enjoyment and fulfillment out of your business, you can’t be the only thing you do for yourself. Take time to care for yourself, your physical health, your mental health, and your overall well-being. Doing this will help you to find a sense of calm and get more fulfillment from your work. Take breaks, meditate, exercise, and do the things you love so you can feel happy and refreshed for work

Finding ways to make your work more enjoyable is important if you want to succeed as an entrepreneur. Making your life more balanced will help you to avoid burning out and complete the work you need to finish.
